Abstract:

Objective To analyze the global heart failure research hotspots and trends from 2017 to 2023 by bibliometrics. Methods Literature on heart failure was retrieved from the Web of Science (WOS) core collection, the limited language was English, and the publication time was from January 1st, 2017 to October 31st, 2023. After removing duplicate literature, literature screening was conducted based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, and relevant information was extracted. Then, WOS analysis function, VOS viewer (version 1.6.18) , and CiteSpace (version V6.2) were used for data processing and visualization analysis. Results A total of 49 056 articles were retrieved, and 25 318 articles were ultimately included. From 2017 to 2022, the annual publication volume and citation frequency of literature in the field of heart failure increased year by year; the top 5 countries in the total number of heart failure literature publications were the United States (8 883) , China (3 915) , Italy (2 409) , Japan (2 268) , and the United Kingdom (2 099) . The country with the strongest total connection strength was the United States (10 260) , followed by the United Kingdom (6 437) and Germany (6 397) , and China ranked 18th (1 999) in total connection strength. From 2017 to 2023, the top three institutions of total number of literature in the field of heart failure were Duke University (824 articles) , Harvard Medical School (778 articles) , and the University of Glasgow (622 articles) ; top 3 journals of total number of literature in the field of heart failure were ESC Heart Failure (1 249 articles) , European Journal of Heart Failure (788 articles) , and Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine (594 articles) . The results of cluster analysis showed that Q value was 0.814 2 and S value was 0.929 5. The clustering analysis results of co-cited literature in the field of heart failure from 2017 to 2023 showed that the hot keywords in the literature were mainly sacubitril/valsartan, entegliflozin, biomarkers, sodium-dependent glucose transporters 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors, MitraClip, etc. Conclusion With the increasing incidence of heart failure and the emergence of new treatment challenges, heart failure is receiving more and more attention. The development of heart failure in different countries is uneven, and the main research force in this field is still concentrated in developed countries in Europe and America, as well as China and Japan in Asia. Although China has published a large number of articles in the field of heart failure, efforts still need to be made to publish high-quality literature and build a high-impact research institution. The drug treatment of heart failure, the relationship between heart failure and diabetes, the biomarkers of heart failure, and MitraClip are the hot spots in the field of heart failure research in recent years.
