Abstract:

Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is the main cause of death in diabetic patients and the main cause of end stage renal disease. Its pathogenesis is complex and is a research hotspot at home and abroad. Mitochondria, as the main site of energy supply, plays a vital role in the occurrence and development of DKD. This article reviews the relationship between mitochondrial dysfunction and DKD-related signaling pathways [NOX signaling pathway, BNIP3/NIX signaling pathway, transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1/Smads signaling pathway, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator 1α (PGC-1α) signaling pathway, Notch signaling pathway] through searching and analyzing the relevant literature, in order to provide new therapeutic targets and strategies for the prevention and treatment of DKD and delaying its progression to end stage renal disease.
